Reid Smith has been involved in engraving in the Charlotte, NC area since 1984. He discovered his love of the art of engraving by hand in 1985 after seeing it performed by a seasoned hand engraver in Uptown Charlotte.

Although he will forever consider himself to be a student of engraving, his formal training began at Montgomery Community College in 1988. In addition, he has received advice and mentoring from various hand engravers around the country who have been kind enough to share their knowledge and love of the art.

His craft grew and became part of his parent's family business, Recognition Plus, until he struck out on his own in September, 2002. He works from his studio in the nearby town of Matthews, NC.
